So Renault has announced that they'll be making a pretty retro-styled reinvention of the iconic Alpine mid-engine rally car.

Can't find specs yet, but it looks pretty good for a retro modernization.

However, considering that this is a mid-engine platform, I find myself wondering if Nissan will have the balls to do some resurrecting of their own with the platform. Specifically:

PERFECT candidate for the new 3.0TT V6 and some AWD.
There's a gap exactly the right size between the Z and the GTR for something like the MID4.
Start the Z at $30k, MID4 at $50k (though the GTR's price has gotten WAY out of hand and needs to be reigned back in to ~$90k base).

Unfortunately, no longer a Nissan or Infiniti, but continuing here at NICO!

I remember the MID-4 in an article in a car magazine ... looked awesome! And I was disappointed that they didn't go to production with it.

Would certainly be an interesting retro introduction.

Are there any more pics of the new Alpine? I'm curious about the back end.

The rear is interesting. It's kind of got a 911 thing going on (especially with the blacked out vents hiding below the backlight). I'm never sure how I feel about center-exit exhausts in most cases, but I don't dislike this one.

I don't like the goofy stripes on the C-pillar. Ruins what's otherwise a sharp roofline from aft angles. Also not a fan of the Ford-like pinches at the bottom of the rear bumper behind the wheel arches.

The front is very Lexus SC400 to me.

All of this, especially the goofy stripes. They seem like an afterthought.

Needs more foglamps on the new concept. :P
I'm not a huge fan of the back window. Looks odd. We'll never get it though so ...meh.

The rear of the car looks kinda Audi-ish, with added diffusers, and some old Fuego trim at the bottom of the rear window They described it as a potential competitor of the Cayman S, but I see it more of a competitor for the Lotus Elise. Given how quirky and dreadful Renaults were the last time they were sold in the US, (Many here probably don't remember them) my expectations are low..

I dig it, but we'll never see it. I'd probably never buy it if we had it anyway. To me, that's one of those, "Cool cars for other people to buy and me to ogle" cars.
