So I'm replacing the transmission in my '99 Pathfinder. But I can't loosen the bolts on the stupid flywheel. I've removed the started and the gussets, so I have a "little" access to the bolts. But it's not much and I can't loosen them because the flywheel turns. I can get an offset wrench on the bolts, but it's not a great fit.

I'm trying to hold the flywheel in place with a socket/breaker bar on the Crankshaft, but it's not working.

Could someone please tell me how they accomplished this? I've been fighting the transmission for a week, removing all this stuff. It's a real PIA if you ask me. LOL

I would appreciate any help / comments / advice / guidance on removing the flywheel bolts.

Thanks!
Mike

Swing by your local parts store and see if they rent a flywheel tool.

The way I did it on my Frontier was with a length of chain. Bolted one end to a threaded hole on the flywheel, and wrapped the other end around the frame (you obviously don't have a frame, but you can bolt the other end to the unibody somewhere).

Same concept, but with a wrench and steel bar:
