You can weld it but it will just warp the metal due to the heat. Now you've just got a really ugly roof.
Could put a new sunroof in, but you'll have the same problem in a few more years and you'll have wasted a couple hundred bucks. Plus you said you dont like sunroofs, i am just posting this is for future reference for someone.
You could replace the whole roof skin. But that will be pretty expensive, labor alone and if you dont already have a roof skin, id probably tack on a couple hundred more, not absolutle certain about that price, its just an estimate ive gotten before.
My personally suggestion. Get a piece of metal, not sure of gauge. Become very friendly with someone who knows how to use an english wheel, or do it yourself. Bend the metal to about the curviture of the roof. Then cut maybe an extra half inch of the inner structure of the roof (from the inside). Then epoxy the metal in place, slap some bondo in on top, paint it, then buy yourself something nice with the hundreds you just saved from the 2 options above. The bondo may crack eventually but, hey, its not that hard to redo.
Im sure some more post will follow mine with people bitching saying you should have searched, which maybe you should have, but im in a good mood today. Just remember, the above is my personal opinion, do what you will with it.
