Hey all, I am finally getting around to investigating that god awful rattle in the front end of my car ... I really want to remove and mess around with that overhead light unit above the rear view mirror (called a map light? /shrug)

How do you go about taking this thing off?? I just dont want to make some uneducated decision and snap something =/ like i did with my STS LOL

I tried searching for this but i'm not sure exactly what its called ... so lookin for some guidance here friends

Take a look in the DIY section of your manual.

FSM has gotta have it... download the whole damn thing and check it out...

Surman and I figured out how to take out the whole center console from the storage box in front to the shifter, all the way back to the end of the console...

If that info is in there, what you are looking for has to be in there!

It's been a while since I've taken it out, but the light bulb covers will pop off if you slide a credit card or drivers license between the lens and the housing, i know the little piece between the lights comes out too fairly easy (I don't have a sunroof switch though, just the blank). I don't think there were any screws holding the entire thing up, but if you get the covers off and don't find any I'm pretty sure you just have to pull the thing. I believe it uses the same crappy body panel connectors as the rest of the interior.

To use the FSM:

Start by opening FWD.pdf. It is the index page. Make sure your reader shows bookmarks, and in the bookmarks tree you click on the relevant chapter/section.

This works if you are reading it online, or if you have downloaded it. Note that if you download it, you will need to download ALL of the pdf files and put them in one folder.
