Have been considering temporarily removing the headliner to install a small ham radio antenna mount above the rear window. According to the FSM, headliner removal is one b*tch of a job - Remove the front and rear seats, the instrument panel, front and rear seat belts, body side trim...plus all the crap that is fastened to the headliner itself.

Is all of this really necessary?

All that work for a ham radio antenna? I hope there's an easier way. I wouldn't want to go that far on my car. I think there are a couple of members here that have removed the headliner before and hopefully they'll see this thread and let you know what how they did it.

Good Luck!

Hey, ham radio gets to be just as big an obsession as cars! I've seen hams hang some stupidly-big bug-catcher antennas on brand-new vehicles, just for the sake of a slightly stronger signal or being able to operate on a new band. Low-class bunch, we are...

I'm wondering if the part about removing the seats and IP is to provide enough room to pull the headliner entirely out of the vehicle. I only need to drop it while I slip the antenna mount through the new hole (yes, there will be drilling involved!), and then route the cable down to the ham radio.

I partially removed the head liner from my 94, when I was contemplating swapping the grey and tan interiors between my 2 Q's. Complete removal would be a bear, but getting th erar down far enough to do what you want to do, shouldn't be too bad.

Removing the rear seats and parcel shelf are almost a necessity, to get the C-pillar trim pieces out of the way so you can get the rear of the headliner to "drop". Go slow and remove from the rear forward and you should be able to get enough clearance.

Sorry too but in. What about droping it down enough to look at the sun roof motor belt? Motor spins but it just slips on the belt? How much would you have to pull out?

I never got that far, stopped by the time I was getting to the front, once I realized how difficult dash removal was going to be.

I would think it would be difficult to remove it enough to get to the sunroof mechanism ... it would have to be nearly out by then??

Unfortunately with the Q you have to replace the entire sunroof assy whenever the sunroof goes south...

I removed the headliner and it sucks.

Why were you removing the dash?

I wanted to swap the entire Taupe and black interiors between the 2 cars, as I wanted to keep the black interior, but I wanted to keep the other car ... in the end the car won out over the interior.

I recently came across some old instructions for G50 dash removal... I think I got it from an Infiniti tech and the instructions are not in the FSM. It has instructions/diagrams which make it seem simple. Still, I haven't tried it so I can't comment.

Any chance of posting those instructions?
