Removing the center console?

Has anyone removed or know how easy it is to remove the center console, for modification?

I would like to cut a hole in, and embed a Pre Touchstone (http://i.zdnet.com/blogs/palm_touchstone_pre.jpg, The thing under the phone) into the console, preferably smack dab in the center of the slight depression part.

Also, is there any room underneath, for it to actually be sitting against, or is the plastic part flush against something?
