removing the A/C ?

my buddy has a 95 mustang gt and told me that when he removed his air conditioner unit, he recieved a huge gain in horsepower..anyone ever do this before? and how good is it?

i dont have ac, but ive never driven my car with ac, so.. on a side note, dont stay around while your freon vents to the atmosphere.. it can leave you feeling a little loopy.

If your a/c works, have it drained at a certified shop. Don't just vent it into the air. If your a/c doesn't blow cold, then it's basically empty anyway. It's a several hour job to take everything out with the car in one piece. I put electric fans in and took my a/c out, so I noticed a little quicker acceleration. Don't expect night and day here though.

i took my whole system out too took me about 2 hours. there is not that much rotating mass on the A/C so more of the gains come from wieght. just make sure you take out the bracket that holds the ac compesser in cause it weighs alot it bolts up to the block
