Removing speaker cover '89 240sx?

Hi,

I am looking into just getting some replacement speakers for my 89 hatch, and the sticky speaker size list said 4x6 all around, but it really doesnt look like that from what I can tell, but the screen and stuff is still on there, can i just pop off the screen and that moulding around it, or do i need to take off the whole door panel to look at the speaker?

I am talking about the front doors by the way, the speakers in the rear were missing when I bought the car.

I have an 89 too, and yeah you have to take off the door panels start with the knob to roll down the window, use two flat heads and pry off the clip, that's what I usually do. Then there are two screws one mid door at the handle and one upper right (drivers side door) by the mirror or upper hinge. What are you going to put in?

I just cut the hell out of my back panel customized it and put in 2 fosgate 6x9's and have room between them for two more 6x9's or some 10's. But maybe later. TT

I dunno yet, I was just going to get some basic 4x6s off eBay so i can actually have 4 speakers, but it looks like there is a 5 inch or something and then a little something next to it. I'll have to get that door panel off. heh. I'll reply when i've got it all done..

P.S. and long term plans were for 2 10s in the backseat panels and thats about it...and speakers of coarse...

oooook. looks like somewhere down the line someone replaced then with alpine 5.5" .....hooooray. atleast I think they were 5.5"...couldnt get the door panel all the way off...cracking sounds worry me...so i just pryd the corner up and kinda of got a measuring take in there.

5 1/4" it would seem actually since thats all that alpine makes these days...but these looked a few yrs old atleast...

Where your lock and handle to open the car is, that plastic piece needs to come off too, it prys right out and as long as you have the two screws out it should come off. Its all held in there by pointed clips, just tug it straight out if any clips break they are at any auto store. I just bought all of kragens when I installed my new back board.I'm looking for some alpines off of ebay too I was going to start a new post and see which of the models I was looking at I should go with.
