I am trying to replace shift lock solenoid on my 2000 I30 and I can’t figure out how to take off the shifter knob. It slides up a bit and then getting stopped by the wires coming from the overdrive switch. Is it possible to take it off without cutting the wires?

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to NICO.

There has to be a way to remove the handle without cutting the wires. I'm looking at the service manual to see what it says, but so far no luck. Is it possible to push the OD button in far enough so the handle will slide over it?

Some further research shows that you have to disconnect the OD wires, but I'm still working on how that is done.

No, the OD button is integrated.

I suspect that there should be a way to take the shifter assembly harness connector apart but I can’t even take the connector off the assembly.

Thanks,DK

I found some directions for the 4th gen, which should be the same as the 5th gen in this case. 1. You'll need to remove the screws/fasteners that hold the center consol to the floor enough to gain access to the area below the shifter.2. Remove the two screws in the shifter handle.3. Unplug the electrical connector for the overdrive switch leads (under the shifter mounting bracket).4. Use a small pointed tool to remove the electrical leads from the plastic connector.5. Then carefully pull the handle up to remove it.
