Do you own a 240? Have you ever even tried to take the shift knob off?

not only is it screwed on very tightly, they use glue...or an adhesive of sorts...

You wont break anything. Once you take it off for the first time, it is very easy to get off after that. Mine was a ***** and a half.

Be strong guys, be strong. :)

Seriously, once it's off for the first time it's real easy to get off thereafter.

Dude, just take some pliers (and a towel so you don't scratch the hell outta the knob) and twist the thing off.

I think grips and vice grips are hard to get enough force on the knob I just put my good arm on the knob then my other hand around that and twisted like i was flexing my pecs for a tough man contest it worked pretty good. :)

The main thing you want is a good grip on the knob when you're turning. This might even work best with just your hand as long as it doesn't slip. If the towel turns with the know when you're using pliers, try something else.

wow, what has Oprah done to the american male? Wrench that thing off with an eastwoodesque sneer while gnawing on some beef jerky, demand it call you daddy before throwing it to the ground and screaming "YOU MY *****"!Before you complian anout the screw on knob let me tell you about the shift knob in my 88' Ranger. It was splined verticaly and friction fit, for a few years at least, go to bang a 1-2 shift and yank the knob off every time, sheesh:rolleyes

Basically you read the numbers of the top of your shift knob should start with a 1... or something then you call nissan up and tell them the numbers there might be a letter as well like an R usually, they make you a key for the thread lock and you use it to get the shift knob off. Took me about 2 hours from nissan to get mine.

LMAO, Shift lock! Anyways, guys don't stress so much. If you're gonna replace the damn thing anyways then take a pair of plumbing pliers and grip the crap outa the knob and turn as hard as you can. Don';t worry about wrecking something cause you won't. Once you crack the seal a little you should be able to unscrew it by hand after that. And it is true that they use some sort of glue!

Or you could sit on the knob impaling your anus and turn it from there. Shoudl create a vacuum seal so the knob is turned easily off.

THat worked for this girl I know.

ACK! Graphic man! Ha ha ha. Yeah seriously, take a monkey wrench or some other form gripping tool to the knob and twist. If you're really desperate then you could try taking a dremel tool to it and cutting a vertical slit and then try twisting it.

i remember when i first tried to take my shift knob off my old fastback. after many failed attempts, i foolishly called my local nissan service department and asked them what the deal was. i never heard someone laugh so hard. so after being embarrassed and getting even more pissed off at the situation, i took out old faithful...

...a four foot pipe wrench. shift knob never stood a chance.
