OK, well I decided I am going to keep the Q at least for a while. I just got her, a 99t black/tan about 3 weeks ago. The problem is that I bought her from Illinois and she has some rust on the exhaust and surface rust on some on the suspension parts and various nuts and bolts underneath. I am going to work part time at an oil change place for a few months mainly so I can get up under the Q and take care of any issues under her. Any advise on rust removal, prep, and uncoating would be helpful. I am basically just gonna wire brush her all down and then paint with black rust proof paint and rubberized undercoating after that.

How about just spraying it with a rust inhibitor like "Loctite Extend"?

Anything you put on the exhaust will but off.And it is unlikely that there is rust on the body. I'd worry more about waxing the car body.
