Can anyone give me some pointers on removing the rear speakers on my Q? The trunk separator panel is removed and I can see how to remove the amplifiers but the speaker removal looks like a separate operation. I hope this doesn't involve removing the rear seat/seatback/package shelf.

You must remove the seat and package tray, but it's not as bad as you think.

I thought rear seat removal was required, but I seem to recall that one member said they didn't have to remove the seats. Maybe different model years or something. I recall that the mounting screws are installed top-down. If that's the case, then I'm afraid you do need to remove the rear seats and the shelf. If you've never done it, it isn't so bad. The bench is held in with 2 clips. The backrest is held in with 6 screws. The tray has 3 plastic clips that just pop out.

If you've actually done this before could you please be more specific on the procedure?I know how to remove the lower cushion but have never touched the back rest or the package shelf. What tools are required?

The six screws holding the rear seatback in place are large phillips heads. The plastic clips can be pried out with a flat-blade driver. The shelf has some plastic retainers that just pop out if you pull hard enough, like on the door trim.

Two of the screws holding the rear seat back are located behind the arm rest. Push the trim panel upward and pull out... That's the tricky one. The speakers are held in with sheet metal screws.

So it isn't possible to remove/replace the rear speakers without going through this procedure? Just want to be sure before I go pulling things apart. Thanks again for all your responses.

The package shelf extends about 2-3" below the rear seatback and won't slide out without removing the rear seatback. The shelf just pops off with a few firm tugs.

You don't have to take the seatback OFF, just loosen all the screws and pull it out a few inches. Taking it out all the way is a pain since the seatbelts are threaded through the top corners.

I had no problems (and I'm not much of a DIY guy).
