The fool who had my car before me painted some stripes down the sides and up the hood without sanding anything off first. I was pleasantly surprised one day when I discovered that a piece of tape on part of a stripe pulled a bit of the paint up with it when I took it off. What I'm wondering now is- is there a fast, easy way to get these stripes off without much chance of damaging the clearcoat? I figure if worse comes to worse I can just break down and carefully sand them off, but they come off so easy I'm wondering if there is some sort of weak paint remover or something that would get the paint off and could be washed off before it damages anything else. Comments?

You might try warming the area with a heat gun (carefully! don't let it get too hot) or even a hairdryer; that might make it easier to peel the stripes off. Another method might be to use a plastic scraper or an old credit card and try to scrape the stripes off...might damage the clearcoat slightly but you could probably polish it out.

Thanks for the ideas. Whenever I finally get around to doing this I'll report back.
