so some people say in general, removing a power steering pump can hurt a power steering rack.......

well what would happen if I took it off my S13? would it kill the rack? I mainly want to get rid of it to simplify the engine bay.... I don't care that it will be harder to turn the wheel....... just hoping it won't tear up the rack or such and I gotta start buying those.....

I would like to know the same. From what I hear and read, it supposedly is bad for the steering rack. However, I blew the power steering line between the pump and the rack one winter and drove it for almost 6 months with rack plugged up. I reinstalled the power steering system and so far, after one year, I haven't had any problems.

From what I have read in this forum and in club240sx, its ok to do, but you need to make sure there is fluid in the rack and its plugged properly.

best/cheapest way to do this is by cutting the metalic lines and bending the line shut, or more securly JB weld the damn thing shut...

that way u still have some fluid in the *****...

i actually should get ready to re connect my lines, dad needs car...dad has arthritis...

ive been running mine since january without a pump and have had no problems. my friend didnt have one for about a year and a half and then reinstalled it and had no problems. i actually took most of the fluid out because it makes it alot harder to turn. instead of crimping the lines shut i cut the lines close to the same spot on each line and attached a hose to both lines to recirculate the remaining fluid.
