It has baout ~15-16 tack welds that hold it in place...drill each one out, then it'll come loose.

To find them under that rust, start with a wire wheel on a drill...or a grinder.

i've heard of people removing it with a air hammer. Try that.

I used a reciprocating saw and a big *** hammer, although it's even worse looking now.

i know this is a really old post, but i just did this on my car, first i drilled out all of the spot welds out to remove the tray. then i took a look at it and say that there were a lot of tiny holes i didnt want to weld shut, so i used a torch to cut out basically all of the flat part, but leaving about an inch all the way wound. the i used structural glue ( the kind used to bond pieces together at the factory, fusor makes it, buy it at carquest) to glue a piece in its place, i didnt want to weld, then grind all of the welds and risk distorting it. no thanks, well i bonded it when used fiberal, also found at carquest. its like bondo i guess, but its more like fiberglass so its strong. now it looks mint. just recently i used a 3.25 inch hole saw to drill my inter cooler piping out... looks so clean. i just wish i had removed my relay/fuse boxes somewhere else, next winter though

i dont know how well this pic shows it, but its all i have at the moment

Man that looks NICE! Wish you could do that to my battery tray. Acutally, my battery tray completely rusted through about 2 years ago, so where the battery was sitting directly on the windshield washer resevoir. I finally made a tray out of some wood when the battery started poking through the inner fender liner!! LOL GHETTO FABOULIOUS!!
