Hey guys, I am feeling a bit retarded, but I can't for the life of me get the motor out of my 92 hbody 4x4.... I've got all the bolts out of the bellhousing, and even have it separated slightly. The oil pan seems to be blocked by the front crossmember/axle, am I supposed to take the pan off, drop the transmission too, remove that front crossmember/axle? Thanks in advance!

I have looked and no luck... I've also dropped a post on that board... again, no luck... figured I'd try the "Mechanic forum."

I dug an old Chilton shop manual out and it looks like you are going to have drop the differential down to get enough clearance to remove the engine.

Okay... Here's how I did it... (with help:)

I dropped the cross member out of it that sits in behind the oil pan. Then I took all of the bolts out of the oil pan, then dropped the oil pickup tube (from the wheel well) into the oil pan... from there it just slid out.

I wouldn't wish that little ordeal on anybody :(

Then putting it back in, I just dropped the dif, way easier, and allowed me to sillycone seal the oil pan before I stuck it in the hole...

THANKS A TON, the dif was by far the way to go!
