As the title says im replacing my head gasket and im having a ***** of a time trying to get the upper part of the manifold off. I have removed the fuel rail and detached all of the components but the ****er is still on. the bottom slides up no problem buty the top right corner doesnt move much. I know its aluminum so a crowbar isn't going to cut it so any tips.

Please any quick response is greatly appreciated.

did you take off all the braces that supports the intake mani?

BTW, its much easier to just take off the entire manifold off instead of doing pieces at a time.

thats why its much easier if you just take the entire manifold off not just top.

If you try to take the top off the studs on the head will get in the way. If you take the whole thing off, you can move it away from the stud to pull the manifold off

download the S14 manual and go to Engine Mechanical and look at the intake side of the engine.. you can see all the braces supporting the mani.

Its really not that hard... much easier to take off the whole thing in my opinion...

When I helped my friend do his intake mani on his S14 SR... I just took off the entire thing. There were lines here and there that I didnt disconnect but you find those things as you try to remove the mani. Also I left out few braces which I also found out when I tried to remove the mani.

Ya i found most of the lines and disconnected them but i got 1 left on the back hard as a ***** to get some needle nose plyers in there to get it off though.

I looked at the fsm the s14 has like 3 more mounts than the s13. All i had was 2 holding it on.

Yeah I think on the s13 it is just the one big one and then a small one up by the timing tensioner. That iacv coolant line is a pain.

i jsut disconnected the top from the head and pulled it back a little. took the turbo and all off the other side. this gave me just enough room to pull the head off.
