I'm changing out the front passenger door handle on my 1990 Q45. I've got the two nuts off the studs that secure the door handle but, the keylock section has a switch on it that is preventing the removal of the handle and I can't figure out how to get the lock off. The switch locks/unlocks the other doors on the car when the key is used. I took the small e-clip off the end of the lock but, that didn't help.
I took a picture of it but, I wonder if anyone knows the trick to getting the door handle off without breaking the switch.

Thanks if anyone has the answer,
Eric

Some months ago I hit the same issue in a pull a part salvage yard. I saw where someone cut the door handles out of the front doors on a 94 Q. Here would also like to know how to remove the handles without damaging anything.

Thanks. It looks tricky. Here is a link to the picture that I took: http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n121 ... emoval.jpg

It is in the previous posts. Search. I recall it is a hidden screw.

what if you undo the other end of the linkage (it goes to the door latch assy), and remove handle with the link rod attached?

There is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) on that WIRE SPRING RETAINER (E-Clip?) which must removed to the door handle or door key lock cylinder.

Erickz:

Any luck? I have same problem, I am replacing driver's door and need to swap out door handle/lock assemplies (no key for replacement door, etc.).

FSM is useless. Search of prior posts reveals pretty much only this thread on-topic. Am working on it now will post if I figure it out...
