on the 2010 at least the burger is attached with two pins that have that annoying triangle shape on the end (V shape makes for an easy push in but annoying removal) might have to take off grill to be able to see behind the spot where it attaches to push the pins towards the inside of the burger to remove it

i just taped it off and sprayed the plastidip straight on it. i'll have pictures of the front burger and mustache overlays tomorrow, but i did document painting the rear emblems with plastidip. that stuff is pretty neat, didn't even have to take the emblems off. i'll post the documentation pics in a bit.

and to each their own on the selection of grille. i like my stock one, but just without the chrome mustache pieces. so mr. 10 post warrior up there, thanks for contributing helpful information to this thread in regards to the original question :bigfu:

soo i blacked out my emblems using PlastiDip (ignore the clear coat, i ended up not using it)
Image

the first step after taping up and covering the parts of your car you don't want sprayed is to lay down a thin base coat of plastidip and let it dry for 10-15 minutes, depending on the temp. The point of this is to provide a foundation for the 2-4th coats to stick on to.
Image

after the first coat has dried, spray on another coat, but this time make sure that it looks wet and shiny, unlike the first lighter layer.
Image

once the 3rd or 4th coat has dried (it's a matter of preference, i sprayed 4 coats) carefully remove the paper and tape. some of the plastidip will come off with the tape, that's perfectly ok since you'll be peeling the rest off carefully anyways.
Image

and once you're done, you have some awesome blacked out emblems without even having to remove them from your car! enjoy!

sorry, I've never heard of plastidip before; you spray it on and peel it off?

sounds interesting

I blacked mine (dark slate) long time ago but I actually pulled them off and reapplied with 3M emblem adhesive. This seems like entirely too much work masking off and taping (for me at least, I have no patience). Looks clean though!

I've helped a few friends with plastidip projects... works pretty well, the only issue with it is how easy it comes offyou need to paint the underside where you don't see it because if you stop at the edge, it can peel off quick... think of it as the protective plastic that comes on the screen of a cell phone, once the corner lifts up, you are done!

maybe if i had more cf and a more aggressive looking kit to install on my coupe i'd go with the cf.

i actually thought this would be easier than trying to dental floss + hairdryer off the emblems, then recutting 3M take to put the emblems back on straight... this way i didn't even have to take them off lol.

And as promised, here's a picture of my front emblem + new bluebat overlays

taping off the front emblem was a pain in the a** but i'm satisfied that it came out pretty good. the major part with the front though was that since there's almost no edge for the plastidip to break off on i had to use an exacto-knife to cut along the edges

Looks pretty good bro... how are you liking the coils??

U should look into getting the whole honey comb grill painted matte black. I know its close but I think it would look better that way.

Minus paint drying time the whole project took 10 minutes.

Masked a box around the burger with tape so I knew where to put it back on, flossed it off with fishing line in about 2 seconds (no hairdryer), painted it, used 3M Emblem Adhesive (not tape, kind of like rubber cement, a few dabs around the backside), placed it back in the masked box, removed the masked box. Cake...not one inkling of a threat of overspray, clean paint to the edges and even behind. To each his own though, yours came out nice as well. I was just saying I dont have the patience for all the work you did.

so i did the plastidip way without removing the emblems and failed pretty badly. im gonna peel it off and do it again soon, maybe just remove the emblems completely and paint it instead.
why is it necessary to sand the emblems before painting? (im new with this stuff lol)
andd whats another way besides cutting up the tape to put the badges back on? my friend did it that way and it seems like a pain.

so here's a quick update since i'm too lazy to make another thread.
i took the bluebat mustache overlays off since for some reason they had already begun to tear in the corner (wtf? barely had them on for a week) and instead opted to have them painted at the same time that my stillen front lip and rockers were getting painted. picture updates as soon as i get the parts back from the shop and installed!

lol damn that's hella closer. I'll probably be down to go soon. bu my car drives like s*** now :tisk: I used to get 30 MPG on the hwy all day, barely getting 25 now using cruise control and going slower. I think I need to change my spark plugs. plus my car is making noise after the accident. but by next month my car should be in a lot better shape...

so yesterday my dad, my friend and I managed to get the Stillen Front Lip/Rockers on in about 4 hours, it wasn't too bad once we figured how to get the OEM sideskirts off. here's a teaser pic to tide you over until I can do the photoshoot with my friend.
