I am doing a motor swap on my 1990 Q45 and I need the advice of someone who has done the same. I am to the part where I need to remove the bolts between the flywheel and the transmission only Im having problems accessing them. I was told by a shop that there were 4 bolts holding the cover on and I would have to take the 2 bottom transmission bolts off as well. I have removed all 6 bolts but the cover is not only still tightly in place but I cant evn tell where it starts or ends. Does anyone have any advice for me?

AlabamaDan and I pulled a transmission out of a 1991 at the Pull A part in Birmningham. We didn't botherto look at the FSM before we started and it was a pain.

I got to all of the bolts from underneath, by removing the drive shaft and transmission support and lowering the transmission tailshaft a few inches. I had to swing the motor back and forth to get to all of the bolts.

We did not unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel, so we had to lower the front subframe enough for the transmission bellhousing to clear the body.

We had to pull the transmission back about 8" for the input shaft to clear the torque converter.

I am not sure how to remove the torque converter bolts, unless you have to remove the starter. I still haven't looked at the FSM to find out.

It was hot, and the wifey was expecting us, so we had to abandon our scavenger hunt at noon.

I say all of this to tell you to read the FSM, as there must be a process to the madness. It is not obvious, like on american cars.

It looks like to me, the most simple way to remove the motor and transmission is to lower the subframe intact. But that requires a lift.
