Removing Floor Mat

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I can't believe I need to post this ridiculously simple question, but hoping you all can help. I have a 2010 EX35 Journey and am trying to replace the factory installed floor mats with the optional rubberized version.

Problem is... I can't seem to remove the factory version. They're held down with the grommet and "positioning tab", but I've pulled on the mat past the point where I'm not comfortable that the tab itself is going to snap off or that the grommet is going to rip out of the mat.

Anyone else had this issue or know the trick to getting the floor mats out?

Again, I'm sure there's a simple procedure, it just escapes me.

Hmmm. If it is like the '08 model, I think that the "peg" that the grommet slips over has a slight edge on the top of it. My guess is that this prevents the mat from easily slipping from position...

Try sliding the grommet up to the top of the peg, and then grab the edge of the mat that is nearest the seat and "peel" the mat towards the front (towards that gas pedals). You may need to work the mat through the peg...
