Does anyone know how to remove the drivers door handle on the outside of an altima coupe? mainly the part where the key hole is

I know they make key hole covers. Not sure where or who from but I do remember hearing about someone who bought covers for the key holes.

I wanted shaved door handles though, but that can wait awhile, I have more stuff to do before I worry about the door handles

ok, so here's what's happened. the piece does not fit... i had did sum cutting into it to make it fit because it kept hitting the lock... then once i finally got it on... it was too short! it did not reach the handle, it was about an 1/8 of an inch short. then i thought, ok. i can fix this. do some more cutting, add a piece to it, no big deal... WRONG! i went back outside after posting my previous post & looked to the side and saw that it was thinner too!! so now my previous thought on how to fix it are not going to work (unless i want there to big a difference in height).

so that's money down the drain right there, now back to the drawing board... i'm thinking of going another route... just have to go to a shop to get some stuff...

EDIT: in case you were wondering, here's a pic of what the first piece looks like installed... you can see how it's shorter and thinner than our stock piece...

i plan on having the second one done in the next few days... =)

sorry to hear that, did you ask them if they could make one for the altima or did you buy the one for the G and expect it to work? This is definetly an interesting mod especially on certain colors that silver keyhole stands out.

can't you just buy a spare piece from the rear door? they look to be the same size. or would that not work?

i have the coupe, so there's only 2 doors... and i've already finished this mod a couple weeks ago... also, nissan does NOT sell tht individual piece, you HAVE to buy the WHOLE door handle. and they charge like $60+.... total rip off if you ask me, specially if you just want that small piece...

end result...

Did you end up fabricating your own piece for this or using the existing G35 door plug? If you can supply more info that be great. I wouldn't mind doing this myself w/o the $60 price tag of a door assembly.

i did not use the door plug, the plugs always seem to still leave a ring of where an existing hole was.... you can sand it down first, then fill the hole, resand to smooth it out, and then paint it. painting is the hard part because everywhere i went no one had the paint, and it seemed only online is where i could find it.

Okay, let me make sure I understand correctly. Did you fill the existing key hole rather than using the plug? No modifying a cover or anything like that. What did you fill the hole with and if so does that ruin the existence of ever using your key hole?

I.E. Using Bondo to fill the space and sand flush with the existing plastic piece would most likely take the possibility of ever using the key hole again.

Just want to make sure I'm understanding. A cover is nice in case the key is ever to be needed but doing a fill prob looks the best.
