I heard that you can get rid of that AIV valve (black little box) as well as that evaporator little canister (its on the drivers side next to the head light, has a few hoses going into the top of it) and also the EGR valve. They say take it out and plug the lines up but I wasn't sure if this was right or not. This is on the S13's. Has anyone done this and if they have what did they use to plug it up?

For the AIV and EGR, Nissan sells a pipe plug that fits perfect, it's actually sold for the purpose of AIV-removal. Easier and cheaper is to take the manifold pipe and cut it about an inch from the nut, crimp it flat and then fold it over, crimping it again. Then use it as a plug. The EGR valve itself can be used as a template to make a cap, trim out some sheet or stock steel and bolt it down, a good helping of silicone will seal it up. The carbon cannister lines run underneath the TB, cap them off with vacuum caps or crimp and fold the outlets there too.

what is the purpose of removing these parts? (aside from cleaning up the engine bay?)

I did it...just to clean up the engine bay. When I rebuilt my engine (KAE) I replaced all the essential sensors and what not with new factory pieces. All that egr crap was too expensive to replace, and aside from minor idle issues, posed no threat to my fresh engine by not being installed. I have all of 6" of vaccuum hose now and have yet to trigger a cel.

So all you did was plug up the holes underneath the throttle body correct?

I believe you cant just plug up the lines coming from the evap canister. One of them has to be left open.
