Ok well im removing my drive shaft since im parting out my car...

i already took off the center piece (the one that connects the two seperate shafts togther) and now im trying to take off the bolts that connect the shaft to the differential. But they are the biggest pain in the *** and i cant get them off.

I would use my biggass ratchet that i used for the center piece, but it wont fit in the tight space where the nuts are (no h0m0) so the only thing i can use is a socket wrench. But i use all my my might and even used a hammer and the nuts wont budge.

I think the major problem(s) are that 1. my engine is disconnected so i cant put the transmission in gear 2. the cars tires are off the ground

so i whenever i try and torque the bolts the shaft moves a little bit and seems to be taking away all the force i put on it.

any help would be greatly appreciated

PS its a s14 non abs

Ebrake + 12 or 14mm wrench. You didnt need to take apart the center of the driveshaft, you just undo the 4 bolts holding it to the diff and it will slide out of the trans.

ya i had the ebrake on too =/

and the middle piece is connected to the frame so im pretty sure i had to unbolt it from that. (the whole shaft is still connected in one piece)

the problem is i just cant get those dam bolts to loosen up at all...

and im not saying im the hulk, but im pretty sure my physical prowess is not the issue

and ya that confused me too since i didnt see any bolts to the transmission i just assumed tho that it would slide out the transmission

The driveshaft flange to diff housing are 4 14mm bolts. You will use a box end wrench to remove. However, you need to make sure to loosen the nut, not the bolt head. If you look closely you will see the driveshaft flange has a straight cut edge that "locks" the bolt head. The bolt will not turn. Only the nut is free, and able to be turned. This sounds kind of confusing, but take a moment to study the mounting flange, and all will become clear.

The way I got those freakin' bolts to bust loose is to take a wrench, put it on the nut and I hit the end of the wrench with a BFHammer. It worked every time. But if yours are on ultra ultra tight then you run the risk of rounding them off it you try what I did unless you land a 14mm line wrench.

Two long combo wrenches is what you use. You can get the proper leverage that way.

This is by far another one of thoes PITA jobs. Just threw a Tomei LSD in and getting that off was not an easy task. I was afraid i was going to break my powerbuilt wrench.

E brake and a box wrench + leverage. Make sure you lock tight them when you put them back on.

if you have someone around with a bit of extra time. you can have them slide into the driver seat and push as hard as they can on the brake?? if you still have it on there that is. i had to drop the car down just enough to have the rear tires touch the ground inorder to break them loose. once they where loose i jacked it back up and finnished the job... be careful tho. make sure something is under the car when you do that tho. do want to have a flat nico member... lol

There are two main was to do this

1. 14mm wrench and a hammer (works like an impact and should break the nuts free after a few wacks)

2. 14mm wrench and a 17mm wrench, slide the 17mm box end over the 14mm open end, if turned the right way this increases your leverage and should help break them free.

I always use #1 but either way should work.

Soak the nut with PB Blaster overnight, then get a breaker bar, such as a 2' pipe that fits over your socket wrench.

I think the guy who's impersonating me is right. (thanks for stealing my name) You need to turn the nut to get it started. I believe I held the bolt and turned the nut. It was a pain but, I'm a wimp and I managed on a badly rusted car with small breaker bar and a box wrench. wear gloves
