do I need to take off the flywheel to remove the crankshaft? I'm asking because last time I tried to take the flywheel off, I tried using 3 different impacts and none of them took these 3 bolts off

Yes...I believe you have to take the flywheel off to remove the crankshaft, the reason being is that to remove the rear main seal housing - which is around the crankshaft you need to remove the flywheel. I don't know what you are removing the crank for but most of the time you would want them separated anyways...you may be able to try to get the rear main seal housing bolts with a wrench but I still don't know if its possible...feel free to correct me if I am wrong anyone...
