Does anyone know the easiest, and safest way to take the AC out of an 89 240SX? Thanks

have it evacuated at a shop if your not gonna reuse it and it is r-12 you might be able to negotiate them to do it cheap since they will be getting free freon for their use. then its just a manner of un bolting everything for the a/c

Like they said evacuate the system. But you dont have to take anything off if you have the proper tools I put everything on without removing anything. just unhook everything once you evacuate it its gonna be alot easier than installing a new one btw.

punch/cut a hole in the line and run like hell (ultimate in non-treehugger technology). come back in 15 minutes and unbolt whatever you want to take out, and cut the lines and remove it in sections if you have to.

Or you could...... poke the low end hose valve hook up with the tip of a screwdriver and just like hold your breathe.

Or hey how about taking a tourch and burn it while it comes out. It only turns into fosgene gas when you do that. Nobody out side a 100 ft area would die ,just you and anyone in that circle would.

unless your adding bunch of turbo you dont need the room.. soo,,, if it has charge and you just want a tiny bit more power, cut the belt,, OR if no charge and you want power and weight plus cooling the radiator better, cut the belt, take off compressor condencer ane evap, but leave the lines, so you could reinstall later..

oh yea,, anyone need an 89 compressor,, dont know if its good though

digging up old thread here...

removed most of my a/c today. compressor, dries, and most of the lines.

but my questions are do i need to plug the tubing going into the cabin from the engine bay? i probably will eventually just wondering what leaving them unplugged would do in the meantime.

and lastly the electrical connections under the hood. will removing any of the wiring throw codes on the ecu?

Nah you dont need to plug the tubing really. i would however reccomend plugging it just incase you want to save the evaporator core which is infact the second most expensive A/C part on this car. Or you can just take it out of you dash by taking out the glove box and unscrewing it. If you do decide to take it out then i would reccomend getting all the rubber stoppers from the dealer for the original firewall holes. This way you dont get gasses or fumes in the ****pit of your car it blocks out the sounds and smell. You should in fact have 3 holes one for the A/C run off which drips down from a tube then the other two for the recieve and give lines. That is it.

No removing the connections by just unplugging them and twist tieing them up will not do anything. Most of the low end cars came without a/c and you ended up taking the blue taped connectors and hooking them up.

Mine came without a/c and i put it in, all the connectoins were not hooked up until i hooked them up. SO your safe if you unhook them.
