Removing ABS

I was wondering if it is a monumental job to remove the abs system from my s13. Pretty much as soon as I got the car, the unit would stay on after I turned off the ignition, completely draining the battery. I unplugged the harness from it, and have been driving without it (and not missing it) for almost a year. I have a feeling I would need a new master cylinder, but I am not sure what else would need to be changed. Also, are the hard lines removable without driving myself crazy ripping everything apart? Thanks.

not a monumental one, just might take a little time. Reason for that is the hardlines that would run all the way from the bmc to the various calipers are no longer being made by nissan and you'll need to source them from junkers. you can pull the abs sensors off the hubs, that's no biggie, pull the big box up front that controls the abs, pull the controller and put the non-abs hardlines in place.

Thanks. I guess if I can I will try and find the hardlines, but I won't drive myself crazy over it. Maybe if I was going for super light weight ... ...

I've recently removed the ABS actuator from my 240. There is a Nissan part that I order that simplified the job. 02463-13100, I bought this part at Courtesy Nissan for $8.05 but it is a speciality part so you'll probably end up waiting a week for it. You don't need a new master cylinder. This part connects the front lines to the brake master cylinder with the existing lines that go to the ABS actuator. As for the rear line, there is a short line that goes from the ABS actuator to a female female union attached to the frame. You will need to remove that line (its about 6 inches long) and connect the rear line coming from the brake master cylinder to that female union.

Done and done. I guess I should do any other brake related stuff at the same time, since I am going to have to bleed the lines anyways. Z32 fronts sound good. On that note, what is the most I should spend on a used pair of 26mm calipers and rotors? I hear some people ripping them off cars at a junkyard and getting them cheap, or other people get them not so cheap. I guess a ballpark figure would be good, so I know to keep hunting if the price is too high.

dunno bout those 26mm's. I thought about those and then I tried to source some rotors for them. got pretty rough, so I opted for the 30mm instead and got them for 115 each new. so expect the calipers alone to run less than 230 used, and I think I've seen the 30mm rotors by brembo come up before for like 30-50 each.

The 30 mm wont fit unfortunately. I want to keep the stock rims on. I found a set on ebay, and so far there is only 1 bid of 100$. Maybe I can bid big right before the auction ends :S and hope for the best. Does anyone know if the J30 brakes will clear the stock rims? I was reading the article in the tech section, and he said the J30 ones were a bit smaller than the Z32. Maybe I should email the author. Those seem like they would be alot easier to find. Those cars are as common as (insert witty remark here)

im pretty sure they fit stock se wheels also...they are just a tad bit bigger as far as i know

This is the new look without the ABS (and AIV for that matter, its been on jack stands for a while now so I've been busy pulling unnecessary parts off):

And this is the female female union I referred to above. Keep in mind this isn't its natural position, even though it does seem that way. The red shirt is to protect the paint while I was pulling the ABS actuator, it was quite messy.

Thanks alot. Greatly appreciated. I ordered the part on wednesday and my order is still processing. Hopefully I will get it sometime soon. I don't think I can install it anytime soon. It is negative stupid degrees outside. Oh well, the pictures will definately come in handy.

Hahaha. No offense, but I don't think you know what cold is until you experience a Canadian winter. At least you have the option of wearing shorts outside! What are you going to do with your abs unit? Is it worth me trying to get mine working again? Pretty expensive part, should be able to get a decent amount for it, that is if someone actually wants to buy it :S

As for my ABS actuator didn't consider selling it but I suppose I could because I'm doing the full Z32 brake upgrade and the rear won't have the ABS sensors. The fronts probably won't either as I purchased S14 base uprights.

Actually, I just got it in on thursday. It was on back order for the longest time. It looks like a lower case 't'. 3 of the arms have places to connect the hardlines.
