Hi, basically i was removing the timing chain guides following DYI instructions, but when i put everything back on and tried starting the car, it would turn over but not start with gas smell. i have set the distributor and crank pulley to TDC, and am getting spark and fuel, but somehow it won't start as if the timing is still wrong. I saw that a few people have had the same problem but i still havn't found a solution. i tried messing with the distributor after and got it to half-start for a couple seconds, but now i have no luck with that either.is there a different way to set the initial timing? what else could i do?any help would be appreciated.

Well, first of all, why don't you tell us what model/year you have.
