just bought this car and it was running fine although it was sitting for 3-4 years but the previous owner drove it around the block every so often to keep it alive. its a 92 ka24de fast forward to me qwho bought it now:
on one day i removed the upper timing chain guide thats assesible from just removing the valve cover. that one broke and the piece was just resting on the chain. removed it and reinstalled everything along with new ngk iriduim plugs. it fired up but i noticed it was still getting the 'marbles in the tin can' so i decied to do it the next day.
again, b4 i took off the 2nd timing chain guide it started and fired up fine, just after reinstalling everything now it just cranks but wont fire. i thought it was a weak battery, but i used jumper cables and the car has enough juice. i tried searching the forum but came up empty handed next dayi took the valve cover off and marked the distributor to the block with a marker. took it off and took off the cam sprocket cover(CSC). took out the 2nd timing chain guide and checked the tensioner. the tensioner was very stiff and i sprayed it with wd-40 and moved it back and forth til it was not as stiff as b4. applied rtv to the CSC and torqued everything down to sped according to the guide on NICO. repositioned the crank pulley to be on the 2nd point according to the instructions, and repositioned the distributor to TDC. in the process i accidentally broke the one screw for the rotor cap. everything else seemed fine and started the car but it would just crank but not fire.
heres what i did so far:took out the distributor, repositioned the crank pulley to the 2nd marker, then aligned the sun marker on the tip of the distributor to the line on the shaft and turned the assembly slightly counter-clockwise into the block then turned it clockwise to position the distributor so the pointer was pointing the front of the car where the #1plug was at. tightened everything down and aligned the timing of the distributor with the marking from the block and it still wont fire, just crank and cranks
