The top was was really really bad looking, already broke off and was just sitting on the top of the chain. My bf and his friend did the job for me as a surprise, so i wasn't there to help out/take pics along the way. The tensioners were gunk-free when they first opened it up. Car runs nice and quiet now! (this job was done on my recently-obtained S13)

car has 98k!

Here's a pic:

Mine weren't broke, but they were definitely wearing. I also had a bad tensioner that wasn't holding oil pressure. The KA does sound worlds better after this stuff is done. It's still a loud, unruly sounding lump of an engine but definitely better now.

I'm hoping the Hotshot Header that's on it's way to me combined with a 2.5" BRM exhaust and an intake will mask some of the slightly embarassing sounds the KA is prone to make.

You need to at least take off your valve cover and remove the top one. Someone's engine just got destroyed because it broke and then caught the timing chain.

i cant tell if i need to do mine or not...not sure if its done already or what

every so often i hear very quiet ticking, so quiet i can only hear at idle...then again i have a real loud one that only comes at WOT which mikey (navysnail) seems to think is a valve tick

its an sohc so its different from what everyone in this thread has
