It should not effect the idle that much. The decrease in load and drag might change the idle speed a little, but 400-900 rpms seems extreme.
Is this with the A/C button activated? I also removed my A/C and will purposely activate the system to raise idle and turn on the auxillary fan occasionally. That is the only time I noticed an idle change. But then again, the A/C was removed when I completely rebuilt and modified my motor, so I guess I can't really say what the difference should be with only removing the A/C. Either way, it shouldn't be anything a turn of the idle screw can't fix.
