Remove Mirror Covers?

Anyone know how to take off the painted covers from our side view mirrors? I'm trying to take mine off to get repainted but I can't for the life of me get the dang thing off. The service manual says to take off the mirror first, but the directions it gives make no sense.

EDIT: Never mind, i finally got them off lol. There is a little tab in the back of the housing that I managed to lift up and push out with a long flathead screwdriver. Afterwards I slowly went around and pulled off the cover from where I pushed out that tab.
