I need assistance with this new Rogue door panel. I am a tinkerer and want to change out the crappy base speakers for high end speakers. Has anyone removed the door panel yet? If so how?

Thanks

Hey man, I have the same plan - save over $2 grand buying the premium package, and just replace the 4 speakers with high end ones (I know 6 speakers would be better, but I can live with 4 good ones). I haven't bought my Rogue yet so I can't answer your question, but I was hoping you could answer a question I have: what is the maximum watts that the factory stereo will support - i.e. how big of speakers can I use to replace the factory ones in terms of max watts and physical size? Thank a lot, I'll be watching this thread to see how things go, GOOD LUCK!

The non Bose factory stereo does not sound great. I will be replacing it as well. The front speakers look like 5 X 7 but a simple conversion should allow many 6 1/2 inch in the front. The rear are 6 1/2. Hope that helps.

Per the installers I talked to fronts are actually a 6 3/4. They seem pretty confident of a "no issue" install, but Crutchfield says there is a "depth" problem. Base system with MP3 or CD player sounds pretty good, radio is the only thing lacking. Of course I am having several issues with my radio and waiting for dealer to fix it, or install kits for head unit to come out. Droopy

Location Size Depth Front Speaker 6.5 4Rear Speaker 6.5 4.2 I just received my new Pioneer AVIC-D3X with Bluetooth package and very happy about. I'm going to hook it up this weekend and hopefully i should receive my dash kit by this weekend. The speakers in my opinion can wait but a nice head unit gotta be installed BTW this unit has $200 rebate right now. Too bad I purchased on jan 31 and will not be qualified since its only for those who bought after feb 1

A big national electronics store said they could order it in and it was $24.50. It is available in double DIN and single with a cd pocket.

Nice, let me know how it looks. I hope the color matches the dash and is a tight fit. Good luck

Just found out from local installer that the kits shipped out from Metra this week to dealers. They were released from molding and packaged last week. Should be in stores soon or available for order by theend of the week.

Great! I haven't heard from local installer here, but he wasn't going to call till he had them in hand. By the way I have had the head unit out several times and install should be quick and easy. Takes about 5 minutes to get the dash apart.

Hi all!

long time lurker here (since 11/07 when I got my Rogue) and had a question for droopy170. you had mentioned that you've had the head unit removed many times, I was wondering how to remove it?

just curious, since I'm also a tinkerer as well! and was looking at replacing the head unit in the next several months when the 08 models come out...(if it makes any difference in removal, I have the Bose model.)

BTW - Nice helpful site here!

Use this link http://www.metraonline.com/default.aspx and find the dash install kit for the Rogue. Very accurate. A smal flathead screw driver will get the plate out. It might take a bit longer to get the center speaker out. I have the base radio without it. Droopy

By the way, why replace the Bose head unit? I have been having a bunch of problems with my base head unit, and the dealer service dept is being idiots about fixing it. But to be honest the Bose head unit seemed decent in the Premium SL I got to drive for a week waiting for my S to come in. Speakers or amp or sub might be better investment for sound quality if you feel system is lacking. Just a thought.

I like the Bose unit, sounds good. Was just entertaining the idea of adding an in-dash nav unit that could also control my ipod directly... but again, just an idea

Not a bad idea at all! I was going to suggest an upgrade to other parts of the system if you were unhappy with the sound. But Nav system is pretty cool idea.

You mentioned taking out the head unit with a flat head screwdriver. was that in the two small gapson the side of the unit?

Do you know how to take the door panel off safely?

My SL No BOSE audio appears to have 5 X 7 speakers in front and 6 1/2 in rear. This is different than the 6 1/2 front and rear. Must need a custom kit for 6 1/2 in front.

Wonder if there would be an asy way o replace the Bose head unit with a DVD-A or SACD capable head unit. Man I wish I could afford an Accura RDX for absolutely no other reason!

No I was talking about the vent panel above the HU and the air control panel below. They have "clips" holding them in. Slip the flat head svrew driver in the gaps, lift and twist gently and the panels should start popping out. The HU is held in place by 4 phillips head screws. Haven't taken off door panel yet. Don't know about speaker size for SL no Bose.

elee, I don't see why not. as long as there is one that fits in the opening.

droopy: have you received your dash kit from installer-parts? how is the fit? I am waiting for feedbacks on the metra kit for rogue before I start shopping for a head unit. Did you get the single or double DIN?

When the kit finally is released and I too can pull out the head unit I am going to look for codes on the unit. I have heard that the unit is the same just has a code that puts a filter on the FM to make it sound flat and dull. CD's dont sound to bad, but who listens to a CD when test driving a new car. What unit are you going to? I am going to the Pioneer DEH-P700BT. It has Blue tooth built in and right now a HD radio kit and XM kit are a combined charge of $125 with rebates and discounts. New speakers will come soon after with custom hidden sub and amp.

Cheers
