i bought an automatic motor. and it seems to have a sleeve or bushing in the end of the crank where the pilot bearing goes.... its a little smaller than the actual crank hole so my pilot bushing will not fit in it.... i have to remove this correct?

and how do i go about removing it safely?

Yes you have to remove it .I believe its called a A/T adapter bearing. You can buy a pilot bearing puller. Or take a dremel to it.

take a dremel to the huge sleeve? and will a pilot bearing puller get behind that and actually be able to pull it out?

yes. I have yanked them out with a set of vise grips but a puller will reduce the cursing.

awsome thanks!

and a little offtopic, TMS what kind of turbo's do you have for your twin turbo project? i was looking for 2 turbos for my LS2 71 Vega GT and saw you might be backing out of the project. if you are looking to get rid of them and if you think they could support a 550-650whp v8 let me know. my e-mail is Turbosdabomb @ Yahoo.com minus the spaces of course.

They would support 750hp ish. IMO they are too small for a V8 application. I am still going to do the twin. I just can't afford to complete it right now.

its a pilot bushing and it took me a solid 6 hours to get it out, the next one will not be as lucky. I tried dremeling/chiseling sides with little luck. Used a small tap and slide hammer.

I would say that this bushing and the timing cog are the two hardest things to remove. A slide hammer and tapping the cog/bushing is hands down the cleanest and surest method.
