Fred, I've been out, just heard the news. VERY sorry that it's bad enough to total the car. The ECU and TCU are behind the carpeted kick panels just in front of the door speakers. ECU on passenger side, TCU on driver side. You have to feel around the carpet till you find the nuts holding the panels down. 10mm I think. There's a couple of clips too, but they should come right off with a little tugging. I've never done the TCU, but I will assume it's the same as the ECU. Once the panel comes off, the unit is right behind it. You can remove the harness connector first using the nutdriver. Loosen the bolt (I don't think it comes all the way off) and just pull or pry the connector off. Do it evenly--it's large and you don't want to bend any pins. Then remove the 2 screws holding the unit to the frame. Phillips heads, #0 I think. They're a lilttle stuck on with insulation. Pry a little if needed.Fred please keep us posted.

OH! Fred all that recent work[last wed, thurs, friday], and 7 new injectors and a new injection harness, the MAF, the ABS are worth thousands. Not to mention the engine at $2,000.

What about a Uhaul truck and trailer back to KY?

Byron will cry!

No doubt... I'd definately take off what you can first... Or demand that your insurance company pay up for the additional parts! Given the choice, I bet they'd let you spend a few moments with the car and a tool box.

I just had the dealership let me into the impound yard for a couple of hours with my Maxima when it was totaled. Took out mostly aftermarket electronics, but injectors are doable too... ECU and TCU are really easy.

OR just buy the whole damn car back for a couple hundred dollars. Hell, the rims/tires/wing/headlights/taillights and 2 new front seats are worth $1000 seperately...

For TCU, driver's doorsill comes off first (lifts off, just clips), then kick panel. Haven't done the ECU . . . yet.

Very sorry to hear about this, Fred. By my count, this was your third Q45, the first two lost to chain guides?

Third? I thought it was his 4th. I think #3 was traded in to buy #4. What a trooper!
