I believe you have to remove the front fenders to access the door hinges for removal. Really annoying for me too since my driver door hinges have some slack so the door sags a little and is misaligned, and I never feel like replacing the hinges because it necessitates fender removal.
Window switches look somewhat different, you're right. I believe the harnesses are different too, but that can be verified quickly by looking at the pinouts of the switches EL section of the respective FSMs.
The door handles are relatively easy to swap out (2 10mm nuts, accessible with the door panel removed, one has a black plastic plug in front of the access hole, then it's a matter of wiggling the door handle in/out and the lock rods will be the most difficult part), I'd imagine more so with the doors removed. I'd guess the mirror is simple too, but I'm not sure about the lock cylinder. If it's anything like the lock in the rear door, it isn't too difficult although with the more limited space in the door shell it can still be a tough job.
My driver door also has some rust in the corner of the door, but the driver door was in an accident before and I believe repainted. I'm not worried about it, but it's growing slowly. The body shop did a terrible job at the painting - I'm actually not sure if they repainted the door after dent removal, or swapped the door with another one of the same color. I had a dent near the driver door switch which caused the switch to die after enough door slams. Some Bondo fixed that. But I digress at this point.
