I just got a quote for a remote start for $199 installed. It goes 1000ft. Is this sufficient? This is for the Altima Coupe. I still need to find more details, but being that I'm so new into the remote start business... what questions should I be asking about the remote starter?

Questions I can think of:1. Can the remote starter be programmed on the current key fob?2. What brand is the remote starter module?

What are some of the questions you guys would ask the installer about the remote starter?

Thanks in advance

Okay, to anser your questions, only you can use yor key fobs to do the remote start, but the folks I know that have done that got it done at the dealership and even those costed about $400

I have never, ever, ever heard of a remote start being installed for $199. The install takes about 4 hours! Even at 50/ hr, you're looking at $200 off the top, and that's just labor charges! The absolute cheapest one on ebay was $70 shipped, and that was from no name brand THOR??? That only had the remote start, no alarm, and from personal experience, on the 07 Altima Coupe and sedans, you still need a $80 module to makeit work, thus 150 + 200 = $350, absoulte lowest possible to do an aftermarket remote start and make a small profit.

So, for questions 2 ask???

1. Have you done a 2008 Altima Coupe before?2. What brand remore start is this?3. Do I have to lose one of my factory remote fobs?4. How can you do this for only $200, I 've heard it costs twice as much!

Rob, I was shocked at the price too. I asked a few times to make sure itw as only $199.

This place is pretty reliable. I went there to get my tints done when I first bought the car. They have a specialist who does alarms and remote starters. I doubt he's done the Altima Coupe before.

Thanks for your list of questions, I'll call in on Monday to ask. I'm still surprised by the price, because I've read on this forum that people were getting them done...but in the $400 price range.

for 199, it must just be remote start from an unknown brand...

cause i know retail for the viper alarms are 200 just for the alarm itself and 200 bucks more for installation of remote start....

You'd be wise to ask a lot of questions before agreeing to have this done, especially for $199.The Coupe is a different animal, especially because of the push button start. Some places I asked will not do the push button start cars because of all the electronics required to bypass the intel key, alarm system etc. Whoever installs this thing had better have a ton of experience. As for the price, you need to ask how much the bypass module will cost, if they even have one for this car. If they don't know what a bypass module is, then I'd walk away.I was at Best Buy last week asking a ton of questions about remote starts, and in my humble opinion, there is NO way you can get this done for that kind of price. Buyer beware.

I asked already to make sure that he knows there's bypass required. He's aware of that. But yea... I'm iffy because it's so much cheaper than everywhere else!

Ok. I just called them

The brand is DEI.I will lose a keyfob. I can spend another $150 for another module if I dont want to lose it.

$199 installed.

What are your opinions on DEI?What's the disadvantage of losing a keyfob...other than losing it physically?

well, regardless, you will need to carry around two remotes.... I would suggest NOT leaving your key fob in the car, just get the module... oh and by the way, the module on costs $80, if he's charging you 150, he's overcharging you 100%

So if I dont get the module, there's a high risk the FOB gets stolen.

Why is it that I need to carry around 2 remotes? He mentioned something about programming my current key fob...this was on Saturday.

Is there a link as to where I can get the module for $80?

Wasn't there someone a while back who had the dealer program a remote starter into the smart key?

yes, but I believe it as $400 - $500 labor charges at the dealer... cmon dude, we're talking about the stealership here, their labor rates are ALWAYS astronomical!

Yeah, thats why you have to make connections. Also it helps to know who their main competitors all. Sometimes all I need to do is drop the name of one of their competitors and and the dollars start dropping!

I'm still contemplating if I wanna do this or not. Most likely, I will...but Winter is almost over. I'd mostly use it for the Winter time.

Plus, I'm getting the Avic-Z1 installed soon
