Curious, can you install a remote starter on an A/C with CVT? Obviously it cannot be installed on the manual shift A/C, which is making winter a little more colder than usual... :P

Also, do you happen to know if a remote starter could be installed on ah... whatchamacalit.... Paddle shifters, like on the upcoming Evo X? because that is essentially a hybrid manual/auto so I am guessing the answer might be no...?

Oh,, & speaking of which, how about on an actual hybrid engine,, I can see how a remote starter might not click w/ that either.

thx!

No true. You can install a remote start on both the auto or manual. either way, you'll lose a smart key as they (installer) will use the extra one for the remote start unit. I had a remote start installed on my FJ as well as on my acura. Both were manual but the acura actually has a chip in the key that needed to be programmed. It just sucks when you loose a key or smart key.

Oh one more thing. If you do get a remote start installed. Make sure that you don't leave it in gear! Not a good thing. Usually there is a sequence of steps that must be performed when you shut the car down so the remote start will work the next time you use it.

I actually have the remote starter on my A/C. I got it from the dealer when I bought my car. They tried to charge me for a pin stripe and moonroof protecter that they didn't even put on my car. They told me since I had already paid they would have to put the stripe on my car, which I didn't want!!! So we came to an agreement and the put the remote starter on my car. Its better to get it at the dealership, although its more expensive they just use the smart key. I just have to hit a combo of buttons.

Interesting..! I had been under the impression it wouldn't work on a manual. I read up some more after seeing your post, and as you said it will work, however I get the general impression that it is atypical for a manual,,, because it is too easy to leave the car in gear mistakenly and then it will stall/potentially jump forward when u remote start it. makes sense, I currently always put my car in gear plus pull the e-brake when parked.

u said u had an FJ and an acura?,?, curious did you trade them in and now have the coupe, or do u have all 3?? I would love to have 2 cars (one for luxury, one for fun),, but ahh yeah, reality 4 me ,, too expensive $$.

if installed properly on a manual.. you will need to put the car in N and then set the park break, you can then remove the key and exit the car while it is running, once the door closes the car will shut off lock the doors if programmed to do so and engage the start sequence... otherwise some moron will leave their car in gear and try to start it and cry when it lurches into the car ahead of it.

the Manual gearbox remote start is idiot proof.. people aren't.

Actually you can have a remote start installed and still have both key fobs... From what a buddy of mine told me, the shop he works at has done remote starters on '07s w/push button start... he said they just need to borrow a fob to help program everything up, but you get the fob back. He said it's about a 5 hour install... with that said remote start topic has been discussed many times before, try a search next time...

Actually, I sold the Acura to a good friend of mine. When I sold it it had 130K, I know it has at least 170K on it now. The AC is actually my commuter car/toy. I only use the FJ to go off-roading once in awhile and when I need to tow my racebikes to the track. My baby is actually my 05 MB500SL. That I hardly drive. I have less than 10K on it. And when I travel with my wife and kids, we take her car, 03 Acura TL-S. It's not that expensive to have insurance for all of them cuz you do get a group rate for being on the same policy as well as having a house with the same carrier.

Wow, inspirational, thx for the reply. Having more than one car sounds good.

As far as paddle shifts go you can wire them to the switches beside the "manumatic" shifter. Used to have them in my BMW. If your good with wiring or know someone who is you can do it fairly easily. What happens is instead of you pushing the stick up or down to shift gears manually. You just click the + or - paddle and it will send the signal to the transmission through the related switch you have wired it to.
