Is it possible to install a remote starter for an auto transmission on a stick shift if there is no neutral safety switch?

I know the possible implications, this is for my daily driver 240sx that never gets left in gear (I'm the only one who drives it). Looks like I can score a really good deal on a new unit, hence why I'm asking.

yes, you can. you just have to ground that wire that goes to the NSS.

So even the automatic trans version has a wire for the NSS?

Could I tap that into my handbrake somehow so it only initiates when the handbrake is up?

edit: also I would wire a master switch in the cabin to switch the remote starter to ready or disabled, my old explorer had that.

All remote starts are made for cars with automatic trannies. I dont think its legal to make a remote start for a manual. I dont remember off hand where the wire in question is supposed to go on an automatic, but I will do a little research for you. Its been a little over a year since I have done an alarm.

edit to your edit: if you are talking about the valet switch, every alarm should have one of those.

You can buy "manual transmission" remote starters here in Canada - so it can't be illegal.

It could be a Canadian thing, I dunno...I dont think they let you do it here. Do you know the make and model of the alarm you're looking at?

Not illegal. I've owned/sold manual trans remote start since 1999. Clifford Intellistart4 module has ALWAYS been designed to do remote start on manual and Directed Electronics just came out with an interface to make it safe on other alarms.
