Hi,
Newcomer to the forums. I am looking to add a remote starter to my 2011 M37x. Dealer quoted me $900 installed and that seemed crazy expensive. I've searched the forums and found a few references back in 2010 and 2011, but nothing more recent. I live in MD, so if anyone has a recommendation for a local shop that can do this, I sure would appreciate it. I'd prefer a starter than I can control with my current FOB and/or with an app on my phone.
Many thanks!
Ken

Get a second opinion. A friend of mine who sells cars and sells the the remote starters, told me not to get one. I think he said it messes up the starter. From the factory okay, aftermarket, be careful. Maybe someone else will chime in. I'll ask him when I see him next week.

Welcome to NICO. I remember reading a few posts about a remote start in the last year or two. Please be seated as I am
about to pour ants on your picnic, LOL. If I remember correctly, the mobile phone access was the best way to go if you
don't want to pay an extreme amount of dollars to have the dealer add it to your key fob. However, I also remember posts
stating that if you have this mod done by anyone other than the dealer, you risk having some or all of the warranty /
extended warranty parts coverage voided if it is determined that the remote start caused their failure (not sure how they
would go about proving that or if it's even possible to prove it). When I checked with the local Infiniti dealer I use for
service, they told me they (that dealership specifically) no longer add remote starts due to issues it caused with control
units and starters. In the end, I decided the expense and risks were just not worth it.
This is something we each need to decide for ourselves. I didn't want to risk losing my warranty or possibly having electronic issues in the future that the starter peeps would not take responsibility for.

Thanks for the replies. Good information to consider. Hard to believe that in 2014 where these remote starters are much more common than they used to be, that they could be this problematic. Perhaps I will just wait and get it factory installed for my next car. I just wanted it sooner than that. Oh well ....

I just had Viper Smart Start installed on my M56. It's not difficult nor is it expensive. I had a friend that works at an authorized DEI dealer do the install for me. The cost should range between $350-450 depending on where you go and if you're getting a good deal or not. If all you want is remote start the car, all that's need is: DBALL2, RF kit, and THNISS3 wire harness. Nothing else is needed. Most if not all newer Nissan Push-To-Start cars are considered "RSR" (Remote Start Ready) and the install is fairly simple and almost plug-n-play.

Cost of parts:
DBALL2 = $50
RF Kit = ~$100
THNISS3 = $50
Optional DSM200 or DSM250 for SmartStart (start from your phone) = $100/170

So that's $200 in parts for basic remote start. Considering it takes only about an hour to wire it up (thanks to the THNISS3) a shop should not be charging you more than $150 in labor but some shops are greedy. I actually planned on installing mine myself and I bought all of the parts only to find out that the DBALL2 is only programmable by an authorized DEI installer.

I paid far less than this since prior to October 1st, all you needed was the DBALL2 and THNISS3 and you could simply press the lock button 3x on your factory keyfob to start the car. Viper got greedy (as usual) and decided they were no longer going to support the 3x factory keyfob start since they want you to spend more money by buying an RF kit from them. And as far as warranty, I have never seen a warranty voided by remote start unless the installer did a terrible job and effed something up really bad. But considering it's nearly plug and play and there is no wire cutting involved, it shouldn't be an issue at all.

Hope this helps.

Glad you had no issues with the install and hope it stays that way, do you have any pictures of the step by step process?

Bumping an old thread for info. I bought one of the Compustar equivalents from ebay for a little less than 200, I think the name on the box is Omega but same model number as the FAQ. Anyways, instructions say install firmware which the seller did, I hooked it all up, did the initial remote programming, then unhooked just the unit and sent back for the next step of programming and while waiting for it to come back the security light came on in my car. Its starts and drives fine but I'm a little worried. Called the seller they were unfamiliar with that but said wait to get the module back and see if it goes away.

Just to follow up I got the module back, plugged it in and finished the programming. Remote start works great and the security light went off. It was easy to install and isn't permanent.
