Hi my name is Jerry. I just bought my wife a 08 M35x. She just loves the car. She was playing around with it the other day and it started up on it's own. The dealer said it didn't have one. If she pushed lock on the remote twice it would start up.Push it twice again and it will stop.

can you find out whether its an aftermarket remote start or what type it is because I'm sure a lot of people on this forum would love this feature on their cars including myself. Thanks!

Is it an aftermarket fob? If so, then someone installed something? What? If not-you're pulling my leg... :chuckle:

It is the orignal key fob. Works with both fobs that came with the car. when you start it and get inside all you have to do is push the start button and take off.I will find out if it is aftermarket or factory.

When you push the start button-yes the motor starts and you can take off; OEM style. Are you saying the motor is already going, initiated by the OEM fob when you push the start button? Whoa!

I've heard of this before.

Basically, you installed a THIRD fob somewhere in the car. From what I've heard (limited info).

Interested in finding out how this works. I would love to get remote start without the extra fob

Wouldn't that mean anyone who comes and presses the button on the door handle can just open the door? Doesn't sound too safe.

You have an aftermarket remote start wired to work w/ the factory remote. We do it all the time. You use the door lock pulses to trigger the aftermarket RS. Easy for anyone who does it for a living.

I would suggest this place called One Way Auto sports. They are official and I have used them in the past. If anyone can do it, they can. onewayautosports.com

I just spoke to someone from there and he said that if he sets it up with the factory remote I have to pretty much be right beside the car. Can anyone verify this?

Infiniti of Massapequa offers remote start using your existing key fob for all infiniti models. I called them up to verify that I want to use my existing fob to remote start and not a secondary remote. They quoted me $425.

Yeah, I got that quote too, but for the first time I've noticed the range of this FOB and it is about 50-75 feet, 100 or so against your chin. That's less than 40 seconds walking. Not far enough. They did say they could add an antenna that would extend the range of the FOB for $100. I called about 10 dealers and got prices ranging from this being the lowest to $800. Everyone seems to think certain things can or can't be done. My main thing was to get both the FOB and the remote from the starter. Just in case the FOB isn't good enough for me I have the original at hand. Half said not possible, The other half said they don't provide the original remote. 2 said they'd do it for $695. These are all disgusting prices. I think I'm just going aftermarket with Viper or something and have the FOB programmed and get the whole thing for $250-$400. Just have to read up on my warranty rights. One of the installers said this voiding warrenty due to remote starter is BS and illegal.

^^The dealers are installing aftermarket parts. There is no OEM remote starter from Infitini...even if the dealer tells you there is. I install them all the time for the local Infiniti dealers and they sell them as their own. Unless they prove the remote starter damaged something (which it won't) they CAN NOT void your warranty. There is new legislation regarding this.

Also, you CAN get it to work on your factory remote (range will only be as good as it is now) AND get the aftermarket remotes along with it. Anyone saying otherwise either doesn't know what they're talking about or is lying. $400-$600 isn't bad from a dealer to be honest as their pricing is always a little higher.

Just to make sure I have this correct. The starter already comes with programed remotes. So if whatever price they give me for the FOB to be programed to the starter, that should be the total price for both the FOB and original remote because they are not doing anything extra special to get both remotes programed right?

you can find the aftermarket systems online a lot cheaper than retail.. then all you need is an installer.

my boy is an installer he is doin the viper 2 way LCD remote start/alarm for me for 400 cash. were in central NJ

my suggestion... order it online... find a reputable installer or shop to do it for you.

spoke to a family member that works for infiniti and agreed with it will not void your warranty due to that law/act that is now out ( cant remember the name off the top of my head) but it says that unless they can prove the aftermarket mod caused teh damage they cant void your warranty ...

example: rims cant make your engine seize. an air filter cant make you crack a stock spring.

Yeah that's the direction I'm going in. My install prices range from $190-$250. The starter/alarm range $175-$275.

Wasnt even considering the alarm before, but they just got me for my side mirrors...just the glass.

An installer told me today that the remote starts/alarms combos can't be programmed to the FOB, only the ones that are JUST remote starters. Is this true? Or if it is true, is it a matter that it wasn't fully explained and the alarm portion can't be programmed to the FOB, but the starter still can?

It's not a matter of programming. Find a new installer if he doesn't know how to do it.

You can get a cooked steak cheaper by buying it at the grocery store and bringing it to a chef...doesn't mean it's the best idea.

There are benefits to buying it from the retailer that installs it. Ask my last customer that brought me internet product that ended up being B stock junk. Not trying to sound like a prick, but there's a reason everything so cheap on the internet.

Hitting the brake will always make it shut down. Correct procedure is to hit the start button twice. If that isn't working, then either they used an ancient immobilizer bypass or did something incorrectly.
