So I bought my 08 2.5s about a month ago. I live in North Dakota so as many of you can guess the winters aren't exactly nice here. It came with an Autostart brand remote car starter installed on it.

Now, I used to sell remote car starters so I do know a few things about them but what this one is doing is really puzzling me.

When I use the remote starter the car starts up as it's supposed to. When I enter the vehicle I obviously need the key fab with me and I need to hit the brake to basically let the remote starter know I am in the vehicle with the fab. If you hit the brake without the fab it will shut the car down. This is obviously so someone can't just hop in the vehicle and take off without the fab. Upon hitting the brake, it does shut off the blower for my heater/ac for a second and then it fires back up. I haven't seen this before but maybe that is because my previous car was a 94 Grand Prix that didn't have computerized climate control etc.

The main thing that is puzzling me is when I use the remote starter I am unable to use the xtronic cvt mode. I can push the shifter over and push it up or down to gear up/down and it does nothing. Just remains in automatic mode. The only way to use cvt is to shut the car down and then start it normally without the car starter.

Just wondering if any of you cold weather guys that have a remote start installed (regardless of brand) have ran into this issue? I know these cars are really tough to put remote starters into so maybe this is just the only way it will work. I just want to make sure that whoever installed it for the previous owner didn't do a piss poor job on it that could possibly be screwing up my car.

Try posting this up in AV or in gen chat, I dont think you are going to get a response here.

IMO, you have something wired incorrectly. As far as I know, you need a box (called an Xpress Kit) to bypass the push button start and fob proximity. I would think it would need another signal other than pushing the brake and the fob JUST being in the car to let it know its no longer needed and to "shut off". When you think about it, thats not even enough to start the car on its own. I would think you would have to push the start button too. Its almost as if it is shutting off, but not entirely, giving you access to use the CVT mode, but not access to use the Manual mode.

Another thing I thought of...

Have you tried remote starting it, getting in the car WITHOUT the fob, and driving it off? Id give that a go just to see if you can do it. If you can, you obviously have a problem.

My GF just picked up a new Mazda 3 and I got her the factory remote start for her birthday (all $620 worth!). When she remote starts, the car completely shuts down when she opens the door and enters. She has to start the car as normal every time she remote starts. It could be that what you are experiencing above just is how it is and there is no way around it. Inconvenient yes, but at least it will get your engine warm for a bit.

Take it to Best Buy, I know it sounds retarded but they're actually pretty good with the remote start installation. Pricey but they guarantee the best results.

Depends on the area. I worked part time at Best Buy up until last July. I had my local BB (Rockaway, where I worked) wire my entire audio system. There are definitely problems with it, and they were ranked #1 in my (our) district like 18 months in a row. Id trust an independant shop with a good rep over them any day.

Damn I just have an answer for everything you post, dont I?

Lol, yes you do..

Anyways, the best buy in my area is actually pretty good, they did both of my parents cars. 4 years and no problems with it, they give you 2 remotes and a warranty for around $400 I think.

Buddy of mine who installs car alarms as a profession refuses to install a remote start into any Nissan with push start, including mine. He will do any other push start except for Nissans as the timing will throw a code sometime down the road, so its not very reliable. According to him, no one has yet to perfect the pulse that is required for the remote start on these cars. He helps Viper on occasion to help design wiring diagrams for new cars.

aha, yeah true..they don't have the push to start thingy. I dunno man, I'm not letting anybody get near my car's electric system/engine besides the dealer, so when they f*** up something they can replace it.
