We were talking about this at work. Do you know of anything that will allow you to call your car, input the security code and start your car from anywhere?

The walk from the timeclock to the parking lot is a good 1/4mile. It would be nice to call my car from inside and walk out to a semi warm car this winter.

Most of the new 2-way FM alarms w/remote start should get 1/4 mile. The manufacturers claim to get 1 mile but I've never managed to get that far but 1/4mi isn't too difficult.

There are many GPS/online based tracking systems on the market that give you options to activate auxiliary functions of the vehicle via internet or phone. I sell one from Omega R&D and one from Crimestopper. Trouble is, you have to use your limited "uses" to do that so it's not something you'd want to use daily. Plus the systems themselves are pretty spendy and tach on monthly or yearly payments. I'd stick with a nice 2-way remote start alarm. One I really like is the Marksman M-11a.

I believe it was Omega R&D used to have something like you are describing. You paid monthly for a service like a pager. You called the number and gave it one of a dozen or so commands and the vehicle would respond. They don't offer it anymore and I don't know anyone else that's currently marketing something like that. I'll look around and check with some vendors tho.

you could set up a way for another phone inside the car to activate the remote start when you call the number of it.. ex. have a prepaid cell phone hooked up to the remote start rewire the vibrator in the phone to press the button on the remote start.

When you call the number of the phone, and when it rings the car will start...

Just keep that number private, so no one else can start the car! lol

Ya there are a number of ways to work that out. It would be a bummer if your car was starting all the time, hehe.

If you really wanted to go James Bond, set the phone to auto answer and wire the remote start to a tone decoder that was programmed to respond to a certain code number, say 456. You call the number and after it answeres punch in 456 and voila, your car starts. That's actually quite do-able. I don't think I'd want to pay monthly service on a cell phone that was only used for that tho.

Yeah, I was wanting to avoid a monthly fee.

I'll look into those long range starters. I wasn't aware of them. I thought they were all short range like a key fob.

Directed alarms with Directed's GPS tracker installed can remote start, unlock, and track the car from the phone or internet. 2 way SST alarm approx $699 installed, GPS unit approx $700 installed plus $100/yr monitoring. Also, the new SST Directed alarms can do up to a mile range. I live in the Ft Worth area (city) and I can get 7/10 of a mile with the Clifford 50.5X.

Yeah Audiovox had the Prestege alarm that could do the same thing as the Directed peice too. And came with one year of free monitoring and options for additonal coverage.

These systems Ew mentioned also integrate, and have the gps tracking/fencing options. Ask SZ on the M forums he knows a lot about this technology and is an expert with the available cellular systems.

Na it said it was hydraulics but in real life a street racer would put air ride on a car.

Heh, a product that could work and I've relocated. Now I can see my vehicle from my office window.
