If you guys have two way paging or remote start alarms how much did it cost? There's a shop locally that's doing a special for $299 installed for sp-500 remote start crimestopper alarm and $199 for sp-300 2 way paging. The alarm comes with just the basic 2 way pager and dual zone shock sensors and I talked to the guy at the shop and he said if I wanted to add features like glass break sensos and thing like that it would cost 70 dollars each sensor..
Questions I have.....
1) How much did you guys pay for your alarms? installed? online?
2) Does anyone have experience with these alarms? Any feedback?
3) What kind of additional sensors can you put into your alarm to protect your vehicle and its contents?
4) Is 70 dollars per additional sensor a fair price?
5) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY IS REMOTE START SAFE FOR MY QX4 or what? (safe as in it'll still start normally and will run normally after prolonged period)
Sorry about all the questions.... I'm not looking for one person to have all the answers to the questions but if you can answer one or more that would be great
Thanks

A buddy of mine is pushing me to get the Presteige XRO9100 from Sonic Electronics.com. I'm not sure about the sensors though. I think they'll end up being a waste of money. IMO if someone wants your stuff they'll get it. I know of at least 2 car audio shops that share my POV.

I have the CLIFFORD 50.7X Security with Remote Start
Works pretty well depending on the environment

I paid close to 400 bucks (CAD) with installation and the shop told me I was the first person in the GTA to have one installed. I must say, I am quite happy with it so far. Sometimes, if the car is dirty around the antenna sensor thing that is on my windshield it will not pick up but I would open my door, set off the alarm and reset and its all good. Hasnt happened many times yet

But if you are looking for a remote start two way, you have to get a second key as well as a system bypass which is goign to cost you extra.

I got my second key from ebay and paid the stealership 60 bucks to program it

If you're using a 2nd key you're doing it wrong. That's the cheap quick solution for someone who doesn't want to learn the "ignition codes" into the remote starting system. Leaving a chip (cutoff key or whole key) taped under the dash leaves you vulnerable to theft. I strongly suggest you take your ride back and have them do it right.

no you dont need a second key. as EmptyV said its a cheap fix, a short cut. basically its cutting corners in the industry... a big corner being cut leaving your vehicle vulnerable and easy to steal. the installer was simply lazy and didnt want to find the ignition codes for buddies car. comprende?

and when the alarm says starter kill output that means that you need to buy a module to get starter kill or the alarm has starter kill?

Ok, let me clear a few things up in this thread. When it comes to immobilizer bypassing you have some options. One of the oldest (and still used, unfortunately) methods is to tape/glue a key to the key cylinder. This way will keep the immobilizer permanently bypassed, however you can see that if someone wanted to steal you car they could just pull the key from the key cylinder and start the car and drive away. This method is only good for someone who wants to save a few bucks (and already has a second key and is willing to give one up). The other method is an electronic immobilizer bypass which is the newest and best method available. This method essentially requires the purchase of a small bypass box which basically imitates the immobilizer signal when the remote starter is activated. The bypass will learn the signals sent from the immobilizer when the key is in the ignition and it can imitate those signals. This method is the most secure because it it doesn't not leave your vehicles immobilizer permanently bypassed (since there is no key attached to the key cylinder).

k so THANKS to NICO members cuz I went to go get the remote start and the guy was asking if I had an extra key and blah blah but because of NICO, I was educated enough not to just go out and buy another key, i told him to give me the bypass and do it properly so he looked up the ignition codes and is doing my car on tuesday with the bypass...... and he also offered me a job in installing car audio.... which is my passion :mike
K but here's the question... My friend got his remote start first from the same guy and his key is the kind where you can rip it apart and grab the chip out and just put the chip into the ignition cylinder, I believe it's called. So that's exactly what the guy did... I was there but didn't really know how to express my concern with the installer. My concern: with the chip always in the ignition cylinder if he ever leaves his car unlocked can't someone just steal his car by turning the igniton key on?

Yes. If he used the method where he leaves the transponder attached to the key cylinder then the immobilizer is always disabled. If someone had an un-chipped key (or if they can pick the cylinder) then they can start the vehicle and drive it away.

Also, congrats on the job!

Shet man I was right there when the installer was talking and I didn't want to speak up cuz I didn't want to sound dumb but I was right on the money about the chip being in the cylinder.... well I hope he doesn't leave his car unlocked.. and thanks i'm pretty stoked about the job

i dont understand why installers insist on using the universal bypass that requires a key when for a measly $40 you can get the module for it and not have to leave a key in the car for anyone else going through this directed has a module that will learn from your key its the dlpk. but beware people with g37s tend to have problems with it other than that it works great.

I have installed remote starts on vehicles that have the immobilizer in them. Generally, from my experience, some alarms don't use or suggest the bypass that will learn the code. Also, if the alarm is put in correctly, then it will have a starter kill. Basically the starter wire is cut and goes through a relay system that is activated by the alarm. If the alarm is tripped then it won't start. Also, it helps with when the car is remote started and you turn the key all the way to start, it won't allow the starter to get power. Thus saving you from buying a starter and other items because u messed it up. Thanks for the info though because I didn't know that there is always a module that will learn the code. I only knew it for certain systems and cars.
