I am atarting to get frustrated with the non-functioning remote locks on my '94. There are no problems that come up when checking everything in the FSM and no matter how many times I do the lock/key/remote ritual to program the codes in, it doesn't work.

First off, this is what I am doing when I to program the codes:

- Unlock Driver's door (sometimes all doors)
- Open trunk (either using the remote release on the door or by key at the trunk itself)
- Get in, shut driver's door
- lock the doors using the lock lever on the driver's door (tried it using the lock switch too)
- put the key in and out of the ignition 6 or 7 times (have tried both, as well as many as 8 or 9)
- unlock driver's door using the lock lever
- lock driver's door using lock lever
- press button on remote
- Repeat the last 3 steps with the second remote
- Unlock driver's door, open it and get out.

Is there anything I am doing wrong in these steps? Is the car supposed to give you some indication that it has erased the existing codes and is ready to accept new ones?

As far as testing the systems goes, I have checked everything in the FSM:
- Remote batteries are both good, voltage verified using a multimeter
- Power and ground to the LCU07 remote controller box are good
- Continuity between the antenna plug and ground as required in the FSM (This is tested on the harness side, right?)
- Ignition switch circuit works because the seat and steering wheel automatically adjust when the key is put in the ignition
- All door switches and the trunk switch work (verified in Mode II - Switch Monitor)
- Both remote lock relays located behind the driver's side kick panel are good. Verfied with a 9V battery and multimeter
- LAN diagnostic mode reports code 11 - no problems (LCU07 problems show up as code 54, 55 or 56)

I really feel like I'm at a dead end beating my head against a wall and it's incredibly maddening because everything looks like it *SHOULD* work.
What else should I check? Is there anything wrong in what I am doing to program the codes? Is there anything I'm missing?

Have these remotes ever worked with your car? Do the FCC ID numbers on the remotes match the code on the LCU?

I had the same problem. I replaced the BCM with the updated one from a 95 Q and was able to program the remote with no problems. There is a TSB on the BCM from our Q's. Get a later one and you'll probably be fine...

Rusty,

There is no way to let you know that the codes are cleared from the Key-less entry Control Unit (CU).

See page EL-151 in the service manual here: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Q45/1994_Q45/el.pdf. It will show you how to program the remote.

Your mad for having to use a key, what about us 1990-1993 Q45 owners? :)

The bad thing about the remotes is that they just fail and they can't be expected to last 15-20 years.

Does your remote have a buzzer, when you press a button?

I remember you were working on trying to put J30 keyless in your '93... I think you can understand my frustration having it and not being able to use it ;)

Yup... both remotes beep when a button is pushed, except for the trunk button (this happens on both remotes)

The sales receipt from the PO who bought it used mentions that the remote locks didn't work and that was in 2005. I had a look at the FCC ID numbers and there is some strangeness there which is food for another thread :)

I never knew about that before... I'll have to keep my eyes open for a '95 BCM. Would a '96 work as well or did the OBD II switch affect the BCM too?
