OK, I know this isn't a big deal, but since it's my wife's ride it's a MAJOR annoyance!

The remote for our '98 QX4 works intermittently. Actually less and less as time goes on. I've replaced the battery in the control, but no change. I was told sometimes the computer has to be reprogrammed to recognize the remote. If this is true, how is it done? Can it be done without going to the dealer (nearest is 50 miles away)?

Thanks

Yes, the computer can be programmed to recognize the remotes. It will besome wierd combination of ignition on/off, key in/out, etc. Google is your friend.

You have to reprogram all remotes at the same time. When you reprogram on,it forgets about the others.

HOWEVER, if the computer doesn't recognize it sometimes, I don't think reprogramming will help. It's probably the fob. There are a number of e-bayvendors of fobs. Do make sure all the numbers match. For '01 PFs, therewere two different fobs, a common one, and a less common on. Of course,I have the less common one. That reminds me, I need to order a new one,I lost one (it's likely in the bilge of my boat).

Reprogramming is free, so try that first.

Thanks Chuck. I also talked to a guy who used to work for a shop and he suggested the same thing. I only have the one remote so if re- programming doesn't work then I haven't lost anything.
