I recently bought my 2004 SE Maxima, and I’m slightly obsessed with it. Anyway, im planning on installing a remote started before the winter hits. I live in Michigan and for those of you that are familiar with the midwest weather, the winter snow is not something im looking forward too. I was wondering if anyone has any insight on Remote starters. Whether it’s a bad idea to install one on a car, and which brands typically are known to be superior. Im not looking to get a complex securtity system installed, just a simple remote starter.THANKS

Won't it work on MT as well? I thought you just have to remember to leave it in neutral when you park.

You don`t have to buy a real expensive one ,the ones that you could find on ebay should do fine and you can install them both on auto and manual, I had mine for 3 years and never gave me problems.

don't have a remote starter, but from what i've heard, you have to disable the immobilizer. usually done by taping the key somewhere to the inside of the ignition switch, but the signal from the key is pretty weak, at least on my car...

just my .02

We install about 350 a year at my shop. I would recommend DEI (Viper) or the Audiovox. I actually like installing the Audiovox better and it has lower failure rate than the DEI product. A Audiovox 9276 is what you would want for a standard starter/keyless/trunk release. The Viper 591XV is probably what you want for a 2-way system with confirming remote. For the immobilizer key you just need a module to by-pass it during remote start.

Let me know, I have all of them in stock. If you are going to have a shop install it, I would suggest buying from them!

I would definitely look into the 2-way feature. I bought a Python (Directed) 2-way unit and it is so nice to hit the button from my office and get the confirmation flash and beep on the remote. You don't have to get up and walk to a window so you can see your parking lights come on to confirm that it started.

Isn't kinda dangerous to bypass the immobilizer for a remote start.I think there is a better chance for someone experience to get pass a remote start than with the transponder key?Maybe I'm wrong.

You have to by-pass the immobilizer "during" remote start, otherwise it's not going to remote start.
