Hey Guys. I'm new to this forum. I just bought an 07 infiniti g35x. I live in a really cold area and wanted to get a remote starter put in. I've never had a car that uses a smart key with no ignition before. Will I have any problems if I have a remote starter put into this car? Will the doors be unlocked if the engine is on? Thanks guys, I ran a search and came up with nothing.

Btw, this is my first infiniti. I am very very pleased with this car. It's the best car I've ever owned thus far.

EDIT: I saw another thread in which people were having the dealer install the car starter.....I was going to have the starter installed by Best Buy, but it seems like this is a bad idea......Is getting a starter put in a serious issue? Should I just have the dealer do it? Thanks.

EDIT: Just called my infiniti dealer. He told me that infiniti dealers do not put remote car starters into g35's and that no dealer will install it. He also told me that it is not recommended to have one installed. Now I don't know what to think.......Any ideas?

Here it's cold also (worse?), and had remote starter in every previous cars. I won't install one in my G35, even if I don't have smart key (manual 05 coupe).

Why? At the beggining I was crasy using it, often starting it 20-30 minutes before to go, and since then I barely use it 5-10 times a year.-Hurts mileage a bit;-They have to put one of your keys in a box inside the car, makes it easier to steal;-G35 engine heats up very fast;-Now here you can have a ticket if you let your car idle for more than 3 minutes;-Problems with cheap starters and cheap installs are frequent.

So I don't recommend... But if you want one bad , Get a full kit with bi-directionnal FM alarm, so you will know if your alarm is activated. My last car had it and I liked it.

I've had a Viper Alarm with remote start in every car I've owned. Asked dealer about installing it in my 07 G35. Service manager came to talk to me.... apparently with the push button start the remote start drags the starter too long and will ruin the flywheel and starter within months. This is the excuse they gave me. If a dealership can make a buck they will so if they say don't do it I wouldn't do it. I live in AZ its hotter then well you know here so we all have auto start to cool our cars before we get in. BTW mine is the serengetti sand with the chocolate leather hot hot hot!

I have covered at work and garage at home but when I leave it at store parking lot I toast my buns!

Thanks for the replies. I actually live near a great lake and get a lot of lake effect snow. That's why I bought the G35x and my car is often parked outside so it gets covered in snow. A remote starter would have been nice for myself, but I mainly wanted it so that people that I'm with don't have to get into a frozen car.

I would love to have the starter and I am shying away from it b/c I don't want any problems with this car. I just don't have the time to drive a few hours to an infiniti dealer. I used to drive an Audi, but it broke down every time I started the car.....

I would be really curious to see if anyone on this forum has a remote starter in an 07 G35 and could share their experiences with it. I would imagine that it wouldn't cause any problems, but I don't want to risk anything.

It just means that the dealer has no one to do it, they have no clue how to do it, and don't want to be bothered with it. I have done several for the dealers before. NOT AN EASY job but NO WARRANTY issues, NO problems doig it, the price is costly. $1000 through the dealer is high but I have seen charges from $600-$800.

The issue is the Smart Key. My installer told me there is a company that is working on a bypass module for the Smart Key transponder, but it probably won't be ready for this season. They have some work-arounds now, but they can't guarantee the reliability of it and it takes at least one day's labor. $$$. So, better off waiting.

Thats a ton of crap, the start system actually prevents you from doing that in the first place. The main reason it cant be done right now is because of the smart key, but as someone already said they are working on it.

EDIT: here's they bypass module clicky clicky have fun.
