Remote Airbag Deployment

On friday i went to mcdonald's. i parked up next to a 06 pathfinder. after i got my food i went outside i saw the pathfinder with its airbags deployed.. i asked the owner what happened....he told me he unlocked it and when he opened the door the airbags shot out... would cause that??

Makes me wonder if they had an aftermarket alarm/starter that was improperly installed.
