It's just amazing the number of men that gave their lives on this day 60 years ago for the freedoms that we have today and to stop world aggression. I think everyone should just take a minute to remember the young men that went onto those beaches and never left them. It's just amazing the courage that they had. I guess just be thankful that you won't have to go through what they went through and have the lives that you do today. I know this post is late on this day, but it's better now than never. Just my thoughts on this day and I thought I'd share them. Post any replies or if you had a relative that went onto those beaches that day.

I wonder what the world would be like today if the Allied Forces had been repelled on the beaches that day, or if they had never launched the invasion at all. Would that have changed the outcome of the war? Would the Axis Powers have won? It just makes you think for a second and be grateful for the sacrifices of that generation.

I was watching how 125 men from one company landed in the first wave and 15 were able to report to duty on June 7th. Thats just scary to think about.

Horrifying stuff when you think about it.

Those guys had guts, honor and pride, and they can say they "changed the world".

And we whine because we're asked to work a few hours overtime in an air-conditioned office.... How soon America forgets.

To those of you on active duty right now, i salute you, and pray you never have to carry out a mission like the men at Normandy.

We would have won, at the cost of millions more.

Anyone who hasn't already, watch the Band of Brothers Series. If you liked Saving Private Ryan, you'll love this. It gave me much more appreciation for those who fought in war than any other movie or book. Much of it is written based on accounts from soldiers who were actually fighting in the war. And they actually who clips of interviews throughout the series. There is a follow-up episode where it is strictly interviews.

Our freedom should never be taken for granted. We DO have to fight for it.

Our grand fathers generation was and is considered the greatest generation ever. They did great and honorable things. And not just for the USA but for all man kind.

With any luck, there will never again be the threat of world war, thanks to them. And thanks to the men and women who serve today to protect freedom.

To all the NICO family serving in the military (and all the others), Thank You.

C-kwik, I have to find that on dvd. I have seen part of it while I am at work. But I dont have cable or satelite at home. The history channel ran it for like a few weeks awhile back.

Mr1der, Well put.
